The Musée de la Grande Guerre du Pays de Meaux is a World War I museum in Meaux near the Marne in France.

The first battle of the Marne raged near the city of Meaux in early September 1914 , and the city was the closest place to Paris that the Germans reached. The neighboring region of Château-Thierry was the site of the second Battle of the Marne in 1918 , in which US troops were also involved. The museum is located in the immediate vicinity of the war memorial La liberté éplorée by the sculptor Frederick William MacMonnies, which was erected by the Americans in 1932 .

The museum is based on a collection of 20,000 objects and 30,000 documents by the collector Jean-Pierry Verney, which was acquired in 2005 by the communauté d'agglomération du Pays de Meaux at the instigation of the UMP politician and mayor of the city of Meaux Jean-François Copé . In April 2010, Copé and Minister of Culture Frédéric Mitterrand laid the foundation stone for the museum building designed by the architect Christophe Lab .

For its opening on "11.11.11 at 11:11 am", the museum was set up by the historian Marc Ferro with a course of 13 temporal stages and ten thematic focuses.
