Musée de la Musique de Ouagadougou
The Musée de la Musique de Ouagadougou is a museum in Ouagadougou , the capital of the West African state of Burkina Faso .
The museum opened in 1999; it is dedicated to traditional music as well as the musical instruments of the country's numerous ethnic groups. The collection also includes numerous historical pieces. Professional guides explain the country's cultural and musical heritage to visitors.
The museum is subordinate to the Musée National and is located in downtown Ouagadougou, opposite the Lycée Philippe Zinda Kabore on Avenue du Président Thomas Sankara . The architecturally significant building is a prime example of traditional African architecture in the sub-Saharan region . It was built with the support of ADAUA (Association pour le Développement d'une Architecture et d'un Urbanisme Africains).
The music and instrument collection consists of 163 objects (as of 2006), including various membranophones , aerophones , idiophones and stringed instruments .
There are collaborations with local radio stations and institutions, including the Center National de la Recherche Scientifique et Technologique , which stores numerous audio documents. Museum director is Jean-Paul Koudougou.
