Lists on the subject |
The VHS (Višenamjenska Hrvatska Strojnica) is an assault rifle in Bullpup design, which is developed by the Croatian company HS Produkt . The weapon was presented to the public for the first time in 2007 in Karlovac . The development took place after a request from the Croatian army for a new infantry rifle in order to come to NATO standard.
technology
Two versions are being developed, VHS-D is the standard model and VHS-K is the compact version. The construction makes extensive use of polymers . The empty weight is given as 2.3 or 3 kg, depending on the source. The weapon is a direct gas pressure loader with a rotating head lock. The prototypes had a patented " gas recoil cushion " system. Some of the gases from the gas pipe are guided behind the bolt carrier in order to brake it when it slides back and thereby reduce the kickback. This system has been omitted from pre-production models.
On November 19, 2007, the Croatian Ministry of Defense ordered 50 assault rifles to be tested as part of the ISAF mission. On November 24, 2008 the series version of the VHS was presented and the first 40 were produced. If the test results are positive, it is intended to replace the outdated AK-47 rifles and derivatives.
On May 12, 2009, the Croatian Defense Minister confirmed the positive test results, and on May 15, a contract was signed with HS Produkt for the delivery of the first 1,000 rifles, with more to follow. The price per weapon is 10,700 Croatian kuna (1,457 euros).
