Musa Muslihuddin
Musa Muslihuddin (* around 1463 in Denizli ; † 1552 ), known as Merkez Efendi , was a Turkish Sufi ( Islamic mystic ) and Sheikh of the Halveti - Tariqa (Halveti Dervish Order).
He received his nickname Merkez Efendi when his Sheikh Sumbul Sinani († approx. 1529) was looking for a worthy successor to take over the position of head of the Halveti-Tariqa after him. He therefore gave his dervishes a task and asks them the question: "If you were God , what would you do?"
Some of his disciples refused to answer this out of awe and only said that they were taking refuge in Allah , the Lord of the Worlds. Others responded in an impersonal way and in philosophical terms. But Musa Muslihuddin replied to his Sheikh that he saw a perfect and unchangeable order around him. This saying is considered to be the reason for his nickname Markaz , which means 'center' in Arabic . Eventually he succeeded Sumbul Sinani.
Even today, a cemetery on the Byzantine city wall of Istanbul is named after Merkez Efendi.
