The flexor pollicis longus muscle ( Latin for "long thumb flexor ") is a skeletal muscle and one of the deep flexors on the forearm . Its tendon runs through the carpal tunnel (Canalis carpi). The flexor pollicis longus muscle bends the thumb to the extremity and the hand in the wrist .
Varieties
In about 30% of the cases, the muscle has an additional origin at the epicondylus medialis humeri, which is referred to as the caput humerale (“humerus head”).
The flexor pollicis longus muscle is a split off the flexor digitorum profundus muscle . In some cases, the flexor pollicis longus tendon radiates into the flexor digitorum profundus tendon, which leads to a disturbing flexion of the index finger when the thumb is flexed.
