The teres minor muscle ( Latin for "small round muscle" or "small round muscle") is a skeletal muscle and is located on the back of the body in humans and on the back of the shoulder joint in animals . It is partially (humans) or completely (animals) covered by the deltoid muscle . Together with the supraspinatus , infraspinatus and subscapularis muscles , it forms the rotator cuff in humans , which holds the head of the humerus in the socket. The teres minor muscle limits the axillary gaps with the teres major muscle .
function
The teres minor muscle is responsible for adduction (i.e. , bringing the bent arm back to the body), external rotation, and retroversion (i.e., extending the arm backwards) of the upper arm.
In animals, it acts as a flexor of the shoulder joint.
