The Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói (MAC) is a museum for contemporary art in the Brazilian city ​​of Niterói in close proximity to Rio de Janeiro .

The building, designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer with the help of the engineer Bruno Contarini, was completed in 1996 after five years of construction. Directly on the coast above a rock, the cylindrical base, nine meters in diameter, stands in a likewise cylindrical water basin. The actual building resting on it is 16 m high and 50 m in diameter and its shape is reminiscent of the base of a mushroom cloud or a UFO . A large ramp with red flooring winds its way to the entrance area on the first floor of the building.
