Station museum

Museum is an underground subway station in Toronto . It lies on the Yonge-University line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of Queens Park and Charles Street. It is named after the neighboring Royal Ontario Museum . The station has a central platform and is used by an average of 8,100 passengers every day (2015). In addition to the Royal Ontario Museum, the Gardiner Museum , the Royal Conservatory of Music and the northeastern part of the University of Toronto are nearby . There are transfer options to three bus routes.

The station opened on February 28, 1963, along with the Union - St. George section . However, it did not reach its full market value until three years later with the opening of the Bloor-Danforth Line crossing in St. George . In the first few years, the capacity utilization was lower than originally forecast. For this reason, operations were restricted, especially on weekends; it has only been continuous on the entire route since 1978.

In the first four decades of its existence, the design of the station was relatively simple, with unadorned rectangular tiles. This changed with the renovation completed in April 2008. The pillars were redesigned by Diamond and Schmitt Architects so that they are modeled on statues from different cultures. The ancient Egyptian deity Osiris , warriors of the Toltecs , Doric columns , the Forbidden City and totem poles of the First Nations are depicted . The statues indicate the surrounding museums.
