The Axis, Wheel and Carriage Museum was inaugurated in 1952 as the works museum of the BPW Bergische Axes limited partnership. It is located in Wiehl in the Oberbergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . On an exhibition area of ​​over 1000 m², it represents the 5500-year history of vehicle construction. It was closed for extensive modernization work from 2008 to 2013 and was reopened on October 27, 2013. In addition to the historical and modern axles from BPW, the collection now presents prehistoric and ancient exhibits from Europe, Asia and Africa as well as modern exhibits on wagon construction. The collection items are displayed chronologically in three rooms.

Exhibits include archaeological, farm vehicles , fire trucks , carts , historical model coaches and carriages . There are also prints and drawings with carriage motifs from the 17th to 19th centuries . The blacksmith's tools and machines are shown in a workshop , where there are monthly demonstrations.

Is excluded in the exhibition, the railway , although it until 1994 with one of the mid-1930s siding BPW their most important customers at the Wiehltalbahn had. There are wheel sets for field and mine railways in the exhibition.

In addition to the history of the development of the car, the “Axle, Wheel and Carriage” museum presents the company history of BPW to its visitors. The company museum has had around 230,000 visitors since it was founded in the 1950s. In order to continue to be of interest to tourism, the BPW Museum underwent a modernization.
