The Museum Helveticum is a «Swiss journal for classical antiquity » (so the subtitle) that has been published by Schwabe-Verlag since 1944 . It is published today in conjunction with the Swiss Association for Classical Studies and with the support of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences .

Museum Helveticum publishes articles from all areas of classical antiquity, including papyrology , epigraphy and, in part, archeology . The journal sees itself as representative of Swiss research in classical studies, but also publishes articles by researchers from other nations.

The journal was created when the European antiquity journals of the time were no longer published during the Second World War and the leading Swiss professors of antiquity at the time were looking for opportunities to publish, discuss and strengthen cooperation.

Four issues appear annually.

The journal is published by professors in the field of classical studies from the universities of Geneva , Basel , Bern , Neuchâtel , Freiburg i. Üe. , Lausanne and Zurich .
