Exhibitions

In the main building there is a permanent exhibition about the history of the former Augustinian canons on the Petersberg and the ancestor and founder of the Saxon royal family Konrad von Wettin. The focus is on the model of the collegiate church and other buildings as they existed on the mountain around 1200. Numerous originals and replicas of contemporary documents, seals, household effects, clothing, etc. report on the rise and fall of the once so weighty pen. Another permanent exhibition on “Village handicrafts in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries” shows that the former Saalkreis has not only been agricultural production for a long time.

In the former farm buildings, an exhibition area is dedicated to the cultural and social history of the region in the 19th century. On the upper floor of the stables, which was previously used as a straw and hayloft, the political, economic and social development in the northern part of the Saalekreis during the years 1945 to 1990 is shown.

Particularly noteworthy is the historically restored bakery , in which bread is baked in a traditional wood oven on special occasions.

The Petersberg Museum offers its visitors a large number of special exhibitions and other events. Annual highlights are the special exhibitions with craft market at Easter and Christmas.
