history
It was founded by Roma from Brno in 1991, shortly after the Velvet Revolution , which makes it the oldest institution of its kind in the world. After being temporarily housed at first, in 2001 it moved to the current building on Bratislavská Street, which is widely regarded as the center of the Roma community in Brno. The first part of the permanent exhibition has existed since December 1, 2005. This deals with the life, culture and important events of the Roma from 1945 to 2005. The journey of the Roma from India to the present day is to be traced in six rooms on around 280 m². Since October 1, 2003, the ethnologist and museologist Jana Horváthová, who also participated in the founding in 1991, has been the museum director.
