Goldsmith's house

The museum in the goldsmith's house is an interreligious museum in Ahlen , Westphalia .

It is located in downtown Ahlen, opposite the Marienkirche , on Marienplatz, the former chicken market. The museum in the goldsmith's house, opened in 1984, is one of the few museums in the world that shows exhibits from the Hindu , Buddhist , Jewish , Christian and Islamic religions as well as historical time measurement technology . It emerged from Studio 18 , founded by master goldsmith Werner Fischer in 1964 .

The museum has four main collections:

  • Christian sacred goldsmithing from the Middle Ages and modern times
  • History of time measurement with timepieces from 1585
  • Jewish cult devices in Jewish life
  • Sculptures, devotional and ritual objects from Buddhist life, including exhibits from Hinduism and other Far Eastern religions
