Werner Fischer (goldsmith)

Werner Fischer (born January 13, 1930 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German goldsmith , artist , art collector , gemologist and expert on precious stones and pearls .

Life and work

After attending school in Horst near Werne and Hopsten , Fischer first began an apprenticeship as a watchmaker in Kamen . He then completed an apprenticeship in goldsmithing in Münster. The training as a journeyman took place in Münster, Osnabrück and Fulda . At the age of 21 he was the youngest master craftsman in the Federal Republic of Germany to pass his master craftsman examination. Then he went into business for himself in his parents' house in Hopsten. After another two years he moved his goldsmiths to Ahlen and established a jewelry store . In 1955 he married the bank clerk Anna Fischer b. Schwienheer, * 1934 in Hopsten, who gave him two sons, Raphael in 1956 and Maurus Maria in 1958.

In 1963 he began studying at the State Drawing Academy in Hanau with the subjects of art history , design and design of jewelry, setting of precious stones. From 1957 to 1963 and from 1966 to 1971 Werner Fischer was elected honorary head master of the Münster goldsmiths guild for the Münster Chamber of Crafts. During this time he made connections to the arts and crafts and held competitions - also for apprentices. He organized jewelry exhibitions, among others, in the State Museum in Münster.

In many of the workshops of the guild, not all techniques of the goldsmith's profession were taught. That is why Fischer created the first workrooms for inter-company training and exams in the Federal Republic. For his services, Werner Fischer was made Honorary Master in 1972 and awarded the guild's ring of honor.

On October 30, 1964, Fischer established “Studio 18” in Ahlen with changing exhibitions of fine arts and handicrafts - nationally and internationally. From 1971 to 1980 Werner Fischer was elected President of the Reich Guild Association, whose current successor is the Central Association of German Goldsmiths, Silversmiths and Jewelers of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Werner Fischer served the entire German craft from 1972 to 1980 in the craft council and in the culture committee of the ZDH in Bonn. He was an opponent of the total schooling of apprentices, a proponent of the dual system.

In 1973, Fischer was the initiator and co-founder of the Munich trade fair Inhorgenta , and from 1974 deputy chairman of the Advisory Board of Messe München .

On December 10, 1973, a contract was signed in the City Hall of Münster between the Ambassador of the State of Israel in the Federal Republic of Germany, Eliashiv Ben-Horin , and Fischer in his function as President of the Central Association of German Goldsmiths, Silversmiths and Jewelers. The content of the contract is the mutual professional training of German goldsmiths in Israel and the professional training of Israeli goldsmiths in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Werner Fischer founded the advanced training center for gold and silversmiths in Ahlen in 1974 and was elected chairman of the supervisory board. In 1976 he was a co-founder of the German Platinum Guild . The platinum processing requires specific knowledge and skills, which were taught in the Ahlen training center.

On November 26, 1979 Werner Fischer was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon and the Medal of Honor from the city of Ahlen.

In 1980 Werner Fischer presented the German jewelers, goldsmiths and silversmiths to Pope John Paul II in Rome with the “Eligius cup” made of pure gold as a thank you and appreciation for the mystery play “In the goldsmith's shop”, which was written by the Pope and published in 1960.

In 1981 W. Fischer became honorary president of the professional association. On June 17, 1984 Werner Fischer founded the German committee of the Eligiusgilde , an association of goldsmiths who are concerned with the design and manufacture of sacred implements in praise of his glory.

June 27, 1982 Awarded the title of “Marguilliers de Saint Eloi de Noyon” à Monsieur Werner Fischer, in the Cathedral of Noyon.

On September 24, 1988 in Noyon, curator Werner Fischer signed the founding statutes of "EURELOY", a European association of Christian communities of metalworking professions, artists and artisans for the German Goldsmiths Guild St. Eligius.

From 1994 to 1999 he was chairman of the trade fair advisory board of Inhorgenta Munich.

On February 26, 1999, he was accepted into the Honorary Council of Messe München GmbH.

On November 8, 1984, Werner Fischer opened the museum in the Ahlen goldsmith's house with works of sacred goldsmithing from the Middle Ages and timepieces from 1585. In 1998, the exhibition "Jewish Cult Devices - Jewish Life" was shown. The museum's collection has been expanded with additional exhibits that are now part of the permanent presentation.

On June 17, 1999, Werner Fischer received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class, for his ongoing high service within his professional organization and beyond.

From 2007 the permanent exhibition in the museum will be supplemented by “Treasures of Buddhism”. A section with exhibits from Islam is currently being set up, so that the museum in Ahlen is presenting itself as an “interreligious museum”.

In 2011 Werner Fischer received the city of Ahlen business award.

In 2012 Werner Fischer was awarded the golden badge of honor with diamond of the European Academy of Jewelers Gold- u. Silversmiths awarded.

Since 2012, sculptures and meditative ritual objects from "The Gods of Hinduism" have also been added to the permanent exhibition.

Artistic creation

The Ring of Honor of German Crafts. It was awarded to the then Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt in 1982. The upper part stands for the office of Chancellor, the round of the tire for the entirety of the German people. The lines of both elements merge into one unit.
