Schmurko has mainly participated in the Eastern Europe Cup since 2007 . He started for the first time in December 2007 in Krasnogorsk and took tenth place over 15 km classic. He had his first international success in February 2009 at the Winter Universiade 2009 in Yabuli . There he won the gold medal in the 30 km mass start race. In mid-January 2010 he ran his first World Cup race in Otepää , which he finished classically in ninth place over 15 km. A week later, he won his only World Cup victory in the Rybinsk skiathlon . In the following month he also won his first classic Eastern-Europe-Cup race in Rybinsk over 30 km. At the end of the season, he finished eighth in the skiathlon in Lahti and came in 15th at the World Cup finals in Falun . He finished 33rd in the overall World Cup and 19th in the Distance World Cup. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he clinched his second classic victory in the Eastern Europe Cup in Krasnogorsk over 15 km. There followed two World Cup appearances in the season, which he finished with 42nd and 27th. At his last World Cup start so far, the Tour de Ski 2012/13 , he finished 60th. In the 2015/16 season he finished in the top ten four times in the Eastern Europe Cup, including two third places in Vershina Tjoi over 10 km classic and over 15 km freestyle. He finished the season in ninth place overall.
