The building was designed by Gunter Henn , the museum concept was developed by the design agency KMS (under the creative direction of Michael Keller and Christoph Rohrer ).
The museum's permanent exhibition is divided into pre- and post-war years on two levels. There are also changing special exhibitions and a museum shop. The exhibition is also supplemented by a technology gallery with exhibits that deal with topics such as material science and engine technology. Separate sections are dedicated to the history of motorsport . The Auto Union Silver Arrows, the rally era as well as the DTM and Le Mans victories are all presented with original vehicles.
Level 0
Visitors enter the museum via the “Piazza” of the Audi Forum Ingolstadt on level 0.
Level 3
An elevator in which the years run backwards digitally brings visitors to the top level. The tour begins in 1899 when Horch & Cie. Motor works by August Horch . In 1909, the engineer founded the Audi factory in Zwickau, Saxony . Numerous vehicles from the founder brands Audi, Horch , DKW and Wanderer will be presented against the background of the economic and social framework conditions of the time. The merger to form Auto Union AG in 1932 with the four rings as the company logo is also explained.
Level 2
Post-war bodies, rally vehicles, motorcycles and models from the latest Audi history are on Level 2. The DKW F 89 L Schnelllaster from 1950 is the first vehicle that Auto Union GmbH produced after the restart in Ingolstadt. The DKW two-stroke history is documented from the DKW master class up to the DKW F 102 on level 2.
level 1
Special exhibitions are shown on level 1. The content changes several times a year. The topics come from the areas of design, mobility and automotive history.
paternoster
The paternoster is already visible from the outside. 14 automobiles or motorcycles can move vertically on the technical construction at the same time. The vehicles on the paternoster change at regular intervals.
