Mushroom Island (from English mushroom 'mushroom' ) is an icy island off the Fallières coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 16 km west-southwest of Cape Berteaux in Marguerite Bay .
Participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937), led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill, mapped and named them. It is named after its resemblance to a mushroom hat .
