The Musikpark Mannheim is a business start-up center in Mannheim that is operated by "mg: mannheimer Gründungszentren gmbh" (mg: gmbh), a subsidiary of the city of Mannheim. This is also the operating company of all Mannheim start-up centers and the largest funding institution for business start-ups in Baden-Württemberg . The Musikpark specializes in looking after and advising start-ups in the music industry and is currently the only institution of its kind in Germany .

construction

The music park was opened in April 2004 with around 4,300 m² of office space. Due to the great demand for rental space, the music park was expanded by a further 1,500 m² in 2008 by purchasing a building opposite. The music park is currently home to 60 companies employing around 250 people. In addition to the office space, the building houses one of the most modern digital recording studios in Europe, as well as event rooms, seminar rooms and other studio space. There is also a restaurant.

The companies based there are supported by a subsidized rental price. The construction of the building was subsidized with funds from the Objective II program of the EU and the state of Baden-Württemberg as well as the city of Mannheim ; the total cost was around 6.5 million euros. The maximum rental period is 8 years.

Goal setting

The facility was founded as part of the Mannheim model , as part of which one would like to try to make the city of Mannheim even more a successful location for the music industry than before and also to further develop the Jungbusch district . Since the city has produced some well-known pop artists such as Xavier Naidoo and the Sons of Mannheim in the past , the choice of location was obvious. The efforts included not only the music park, but also the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg , located very close to it , in which new musicians and players in the music industry are trained. It is assumed that in the future it will no longer be the large music companies that will control the market alone, but that smaller companies will also have good opportunities in the industry. So far, this concept has been successful. The facility has been almost completely rented since it was opened and the response has been largely positive.

The term music industry is taken here broadly. The aim is to map the recovery chain of the music industry as a whole. There is a fashion label among the resident companies that produce band t-shirts , a lawyer for copyright law, a security company for events, various agencies (graphics, licenses, internet, booking, promotion), music and dance schools, music photographers, internet portals , Record companies, music publishers and management. The media are also represented with the television station Anixe HD and the radio programs SWR3 and DASDING from Südwestrundfunk , which have branches there.

In 2006, the techno radio station sunshine live settled in the immediate vicinity on Hafenstrasse . In addition, from 2005 to 2007 SWR3 organized music festivals in the vicinity under the name Pop im Hafen .
