Mustafa Çağrıcı

Mustafa Çağrıcı (* 1950 in Taşlıhüyük in Sivas ) is a Turkish Islamic theologian.

He completed elementary school in his home district of Şarkışla and the İmam-Hatip-Gymnasium in Sivas. In 1973 he finished his studies at the High Islam Institute Istanbul ("İstanbul Yüksek İslâm Enstitüsü"). He then worked as an imam and preacher for six years. He did his shortened military service in 1975. In the same year he became a teacher at the İmam-Hatip-Gymnasium in Sivas. In 1977 Çağrıcı began his work at the High Islam Institute in Istanbul. He wrote his doctoral thesis and became a docent . The professorship followed in 1996. From 2003 to 2011 he was Grand Mufti of Istanbul .

He is Professor of Islamic Theology at Marmara University in Istanbul . During the Pope's visit to Turkey in 2006 , Benedict XVI. accompanied by the Grand Mufti of Istanbul on November 30, 2006 in the Blue Mosque .

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter A Common Word between Us and You , the personalities of Islam to "Leaders of Christian Churches everywhere ..." (October 13, 2007).
