Alemdar Mustafa Pascha , also known as Mustafa Bayraktar ("standard bearer") (* 1755 in Hotin , † November 14, 1808 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish grand vizier .

The son of poor parents entered the army, worked his way up through luck and bravery, fought against Russia as Pasha von Rustschuk in 1806 , became Wali (governor) of Eyâlet Silistria from 1806–1807 , then looked for Sultan Selim III, who had been deposed by the Janissaries . To be put back on the throne, marched with his army to Constantinople in 1808 . But when Sultan Mustafa IV , who wanted to force Alemdar Mustafa Pascha to abdicate, had Selim murdered, Alemdar Mustafa Pascha arrested the Sultan and proclaimed his brother Mahmut II as Sultan on July 28, 1808 . Alemdar Mustafa Pascha became his Grand Vizier, now tried to carry out the reforms of Selim and to completely destroy the insubordinate Janissaries , but found death by suffocation during a revolt of the mob, the ulema and Janissaries on November 14, 1808 in his palace , which was set on fire by the mob.
