Mustahil (also Moustahil or Mustahil ; Amharisch ሙስታሂል, Somali Mustaxiil ) is the capital of the same Woreda Mustahil in the Gode zone in the Somali region of Ethiopia . It is located on the Shabelle River near the Somali border .

According to the Central Statistics Agency of Ethiopia, Mustahil had 7,774 inhabitants in 2005. In 1997, 99.5% of the 5,207 inhabitants were Somali . The most important clan are the Habar-Gedir- Hawiye .

Mustahil was repeatedly affected by floods on the Shabelle, including in 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2006.

In 1978, Mustahil remained under the control of Somali troops even after Somalia's defeat in the Ogaden War , as did the nearby border town of Ferfer , Geladin and Shilabo .

In March 2009, the separatist Ogaden National Liberation Front announced that it had captured Mustahil and was fighting over Kalafo and Warder , killing over 80 Ethiopian soldiers. The Ethiopian government, however, reported that the ONLF fighters were on the run.
