With around 23,600 inhabitants, Mutsamudu is the second largest city in the Comoros . It is located in the north of the island of Anjouan , of which it is the capital, and was founded in 1482. The striking features of Mutsamudu include the citadel, the old town with its narrow streets and a newly built deep-water seaport .

The climate in Mutsamudu is tropical and maritime . The maximum temperatures range from 27  ° C to 32 ° C. Due to its location in the southern hemisphere , the warmest season falls between December and April.
