Mutukula is a city in the extreme south of Uganda on the border with Tanzania .

location

Mutukula is located directly on the Ugandan-Tanzanian border, 223 kilometers away from the Ugandan capital Kampala . South of the border in Tanzania is the Tanzanian part of Mutukula.

The population of the Ugandan part of Mutukula consists of Ugandans, mainly Tanzanians, Rwandans and Congolese.

economy

In Mutukula, beans, corn and soybeans are traded, among other things, and the cultural diversity of the population is also reflected in the economy, for example Congolese robes are sold and both the Uganda shilling and the Tanzanian shilling are used as a means of payment.

Mutukula was important as a border town in the Uganda-Tanzania war . When Tanzanian troops crossed the border for the first time on January 21, 1979, the Ugandan defenders were quickly driven out of the city after a Tanzanian tank vanguard drove up in front of the city.
