Mvezo is a place in the OR Tambo district in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa . Mvezo lies within a bend of the Mbashe River near Mthatha . During the apartheid period , Mvezo was part of the Transkei . In 2011 Mvezo had 810 inhabitants.
On July 18, 1918 the freedom fighter and later South African President Nelson Mandela († 2013) was born in Mvezo . Today part of the Nelson Mandela Museum is located here .
