The Mycocaliciales are an order of the sac fungi that form their own subclass Mycocaliciomycetidae .

features

The species form disc-shaped, stalked or sessile fruiting bodies (Ascomata). The excipulum is cup-shaped and, like the stalk hyphae, is at least partially sclerotized. Spore spread is active, less often passive. In the latter case, the Ascomata have a Macaedium . The ascus has only one wall layer (is unitunicate), cylindrical and usually has a clearly thickened tip. Because of their appearance, the lichens are called pin lichen together with the Caliciales and Coniocybaceae . Eight ascospores are formed per ascus. The ascospores are light to black-brown, ellipsoidal, round or cube-shaped, not or up to seven times transversely septate. The spore wall is pigmented, smooth or ornamented.

Some species form vulpinic acid .

The anamorphs are coelomycetic or hyphomycetic .

Way of life

The Mycocaliciales live as parasites , as commensals on lichens or as saprobionts.

Systematics

The order is at the base of the class Eurotiomycetes. The cladogram looks like this:

 Chaetothyriomycetidae

 Eurotiomycetidae

 Mycocaliciales

Eriksson runs two families for order:
