Mykolas Karka

Mykolas Karka (born November 12, 1892 in Samarkėliai, Anykščiai district ; † August 12, 1984 in Panevėžys ) was a Lithuanian conductor and composer , founder of Panevėžys Musical Theater .

Life

From 1903 to 1906 he studied in Troškūnai and then in the music school in Vilnius . In 1915 he directed the “Spindulio” labor choir. From 1918 he lived in Panevėžys. From 1919 to 1944 he taught music at the Panevėžys grammar school , at the teachers' college (1927–1935) and at the craft school (1938–1944). In 1924 he organized the first city song festival in Panevėžys. From 1944 to 1960 he taught at the Panevėžys Music School and from 1944 to 1950 was director. From 1960 to 1975 he directed the Panevėžys Musical Theater . He prepared many operettas .

In 1955 he was honored with the name "Honored Artist" of Soviet Lithuania .
