Myroslaw Mychailowytsch Slaboschpyzkyj ( Ukrainian Мирослав Михайлович Слабошпицький , English transcription Myroslav Slaboshpytskyi ; born October 17, 1974 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Slaboschpyzkyj, born in Kiev in 1974, is the son of the Ukrainian literary critic and writer Mychailo Slaboschpyzkyj ( Михайло Федотович Слабошпицький ; * 1946) and lived in Lviv until 1982 .

Slaboschpyzkyj studied at the National University of Theater, Film and Television in Kiev with a focus on film directing. He then worked as a journalist and screenwriter and worked in film studios in Kiev and Saint Petersburg .

In 2000 he became a member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine and was Vice President of the Association of Young Filmmakers of Ukraine. Slaboschpyzkyj made his short film debut in 2006 with the film The Incident ( Жах ), which competed at around 25 festivals in 17 countries. His second film Diagnosis ( Діагноз ) received a nomination for the Golden Bear in 2009 . For his film Atomic Waste ( Ядерні відходи ) he received the Pardi di Domani (Silver Leopard) prize at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2012 . The 2014 feature film The Tribe won the Grand Prix Nespresso de la Semaine de la Critique at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival .

He is married to Olena Slaboschpyzka and in 2015 received the highest award in Ukraine for filmmakers, the Oleksandr Dovschenko State Prize
