Mystic Defender ( Japanese 孔雀王 2 幻影 城 Kujakuō 2: Geneijō , about " Peacock King 2: Phantom Castle ") is a two-dimensional action run-and-gun video game that was released for the Sega Mega Drive . Originally published in Japan based on the anime / manga Kujaku Ou , it is the sequel to SpellCaster for the Sega Master System .
history
Mystic Defender is set in an alternative Japanese fantasy setting in which the anarchist magician Zareth kidnaps a young woman named Alexandra. Zareth plans to use Alexandra as a sacrifice for the resurrection of an old and evil god named Zao. Shortly after the kidnapping, Zareth's plan becomes clear when Azuchi Castle - the place where Zao lives - rises out of the water.
Joe Yamato, a skilled wizard, is called in to save Alexandra and stop Zareth's plan to revive Zao by battling his way through Zao's dark and bizarre disciples and demons.
Magic
The only means of defending the players in the game is through the use of magical spells that the player can acquire during the game (by taking the power).
Players start with a single ball of energy that can be charged to fire a powerful shot. However, you can also acquire a spiritual flame that can be directed in a straight and diagonal direction. When charged, they can travel great distances and have a spherical force that triggers a ricochet bullets around the screen that multiply when fully charged.
Aside from these powers, players can also use a screen clearing ability that summons a three-headed dragon that destroys all enemies and fires shots at the screen.
