The Nössedeich is a 13 km long sea dike on the southeast coast of the North Sea island of Sylt . The dike was built in the years 1936/37 together with the embankment of the Rantum Basin by Department 1/77 "Matthias Claudius" of the Reich Labor Service , which had its camps in Tinnum and Morsum. Since then, it has prevented the meadows and settlements on the southern Nöss peninsula from being flooded . The dike extends in an east-west direction from the eastern tip of the island, east of Morsum to the dike of the Rantum basin south of Tinnum .

A sluice south of the district of Keitum ensures the drainage of fresh water through the dike into the Wadden Sea, another near Tinnum drains the Koog into the Rantum basin .

Behind the dike is the “ North Frisian Wadden Sea ” nature reserve , part of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park . There is an absolute ban on entry.
