NAET

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NAET ( Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique ) is the brand name of a pseudoscientific treatment method, the use of which is propagated to alleviate or eliminate allergies and intolerances, as well as other stress factors on a physical, physiological and emotional level. A benefit of this method has not been medically or scientifically proven and to a large extent contradicts scientific knowledge. Various medical associations advise against NAET, including the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology , the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology , the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases , the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy , the Allergy Society of South Africa and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence .

Developer and theory

The NAET method was invented by Devi Nambudripad and is described by its followers as a union of several treatment techniques from different areas of alternative and traditional medicine, such as allopathy , acupuncture , chiropractic , applied kinesiology and nutrition .

Devi Nambudripad is from India and settled in California in 1976 . Due to her own medical history, the nurse began to develop her own healing approaches for allergies. She completed training in acupuncture, "oriental medicine", applied kinesiology and chiropractic. She describes herself as a doctor and claims to have had a medical degree (MD) from the University of Health Sciences on the Caribbean island of Antigua since 2002 . However, where she lives in California, degrees from this Caribbean university are not recognized by the state. In 1983 she developed the method described here.

Nambudripad redefined numerous terms so that they have a different meaning in the context of NAET therapy than in natural science and medicine . We are talking about "energies" that do not correspond to any scientifically known form of energy . She also reinterpreted the term "allergy", which makes it contrary to medical science in the context of the NAET concept: "An allergy is an adverse physical, physiological and / or psychological reaction of a person to one or more substances, also known as an allergen . "

Nambudripad does not differentiate between allergies that are mediated by IgE reactions and so-called intolerance to substances. Proponents of the method claim that the brain assigns food components or other substances an "enemy status", which must be corrected in the IT system in the sense of a reset . The “electromagnetic energy field” of these substances collides with the flow of energy in the body's meridians , which leads to an “energy congestion” causing disease.

application areas

The areas of application for NAET include allergies such as hay fever , food intolerance , neurodermatitis , but also autism, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, diabetes, high blood pressure, gynecological diseases, reflux disease and more. The immune system should be sustainably strengthened by "erasing" stress factors. NAET is also said to be helpful for many other complaints such as migraines , Crohn's disease , hyperactivity , multiple sclerosis and rheumatism , but there is no scientific evidence for this. The method has been modified since 1994 with a large number of indications and also applied to pets.

treatment

With the help of the kinesiological muscle test, which is unsuitable as an allergy test, and with measurements of the skin resistance, the triggering factor of the complaints is to be determined by NAET . The subsequent treatment then consists of acupuncture, acupressure and dietetics. Mixtures of various essential substances contained in food are used as test substances. However, test tubes with a specially developed solution as their content are also used, which are claimed to contain the "vibration pattern" of the original substances and, due to their conductivity, could transfer the electromagnetic charge of the content.

distribution

The author Max Allan Goldberg estimates the number of practitioners at around 4,500: “Meanwhile, an increasing number of doctors are proclaiming the merits of NAET and incorporating it into their practice, making it one of the fastest growing new therapies in the field of alternative medicine . Devi Nambudripad has trained more than 4,500 physicians in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Israel in the use of NAET and continuously offers monthly seminars for those interested in learning its method. There are many who practice their NAET all day, while others use it as a supplement in their practice. ”One study suggests that NAET is widespread in food allergy sufferers . According to the organization itself, there are more than 10,000 practitioners, most of whom work in North America. More than 1500 people have been trained in Europe since June 2000.

Legal status

In Germany, new treatment methods from doctors and naturopaths do not require approval. Therapies based on the NAET concept also fall under the general freedom of therapy and can therefore be used by doctors and alternative practitioners. However, this does not mean anything about the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of a method. The costs of a NAET treatment are usually not covered by the statutory health insurance companies.

Business concept

The abbreviation “NAET” has been registered in the European Union as a word mark for the owner Devi S. Nambudripad since November 1999 . For therapists who want to use the method, fee-based courses are offered that are structured according to a six-level system and the cost of which is around 500 euros per level or around 400 to 600 dollars in the USA and is repeated to reach higher levels Need to become. Contents are e.g. B. "The dissolving of emotional blocks and limiting beliefs in connection with allergies" Course participants must confirm that they will not pass on details of the method to third parties and that they may only express themselves publicly in consultation with NAET Europe.

The products offered are manuals, massage devices and " vials " ( small glass containers from the group of laboratory devices) and wide-necked glasses as containers for them. In addition, there is a wide range of book publications, especially in English.

NAET is advertised in magazines for medical laypeople. Since the treatment can extend over longer periods of time and considerable treatment costs can arise, the patient may be bound to the practitioner for a longer period of time.

In Germany there is a development association that sees itself “not as a charity” but as a basis for spreading the concept and asking for donations and voluntary assistance.
