The NAG-Voran Type 220 is a mid-range car that the Berlin automobile manufacturer NAG presented at the Berlin Motor Show in February 1933.
After NAG realized that the majority of buyers could no longer afford luxury cars, a smaller model was developed, which initially met with approval. The front-wheel drive car was created by the engineers Bussien and Henze with patents from Voran-Automobilbau, which was bought by the parent company AEG . The construction, however, still suffered from considerable teething problems: the air-cooled 4-cylinder boxer engine with upright valves was loud and inefficient. It developed 30 hp (22 kW) from 1.5 liters of displacement, which was passed on to the front wheels via an unsynchronized 4-speed gearbox with crutch shift. The plywood body was self-supporting and covered with synthetic leather (similar to the DKW 4 = 8 models). All four wheels were suspended individually , the front ones had a tubular guide, the rear swing arms, both axles with coil springs .
Senior engineer Martin Stolle revised the concept, made the engine quieter, installed double wishbones instead of the tubular guides for the front wheels and replaced the artificial leather of the body with sheet metal paneling.
Nevertheless, only about 500 copies of the car were made by 1934, mostly as a two-door convertible sedan, but also as a four-door taxi . After this failure, NAG stopped building cars.
