Theme and equipment

NBR 9 game components

The NMBR 9 placement game is about placing number tiles from 0 to 9 in your own display so that they score as many points as possible for the final scoring. For this, the cards are placed on top of each other on several levels, whereby they get more points in the higher level.

In addition to instructions, the game material consists of 20 number cards (two numbers 0 to 9 each) and 80 number tiles (eight numbers 0 to 9 each).

Style of play

To prepare for the game, the 20 number cards are shuffled and the number tiles in the game box are sorted and placed in the middle of the game table. Depending on the number of number cards, the game lasts 20 rounds.

One of the number cards is revealed by any player and laid out face up. Each player takes one of the corresponding number tiles and places it with the number side up in his display. The tiles are initially laid out on the lowest level (level 0), later tiles are placed on the tiles already on display. The following rules apply to placement:

  • the cards must always be placed with the numbers side up
  • If a tile is already in the corresponding level, a new tile with at least one side of a grid field must be placed on this tile
  • A tile on a higher one must lie completely on the tile below and must not span any holes. It must also lie on at least two underlying tiles.

When all players have placed their tile, the next card is turned over.

The game ends when all 20 number cards have been revealed. The winner is the player who has achieved the most points after the scoring. The player does not get any points for all tiles on level 0, all tiles above are counted as a numerical value multiplied by the level. A card on the first level above level 0, i.e. on level 1, earns points corresponding to the number indicated, the tiles above count double the value and on the next level triple the value.

Solo play

The game NMBR 9 can also be played alone. Here it is a matter of practice to use the number tiles as optimally as possible after drawing the number cards and to achieve at least 100 points.
