history

The Skd 224 is a shunting locomotive that was built in 1978/1979 by the German locomotive factory Gmeinder for NSB. It was the most powerful small locomotive that the NSB had ever used. All locomotives were put into service in 1979.

The series has hydraulic power transmission and has both disc brakes and block brakes . When ordering, NSB attached particular importance to noise reduction and a logical arrangement of the driver's cab . Windows made of reinforced glass and an electric heater were installed in the driver's cab, as well as a refrigerator, hotplate and sink.

The locomotives are versatile, several locomotives can be driven together in multiple traction, but only with locomotives of the same type. During the construction of the locomotive, space was provided for retrofitting a radio remote control . However, this was not built in.

NSB Gods Skd 224

When NSB was split into Norges Statsbaner BA and Jernbaneverket in 1996 , the freight transport division NSB Gods was formed. All eleven locomotives were assigned to the freight division.

CargoNet Skd 224

On January 1st, 2002 45% of the shares in NSB Gods were taken over by the Swedish Green Cargo , which together form the new company CargoNet . All locomotives have been transferred to the new company CargoNet, which NSB has been wholly owned again since 2010.

RC Skd 224

On June 1, 2013, CargoNet handed over the shunting tasks in the container terminals to its own subsidiary RailCombi , which is responsible for carrying out these tasks. The locomotives 213 , 215-218 and 222 were transferred to RailCombi for this purpose. Four of them were still in service at the end of 2018.

JBV Skd 224 / Bane NOR Skd 224

The two locomotives Skd 224 214 and 224 220 were taken over by Jernbaneverket in October 2003 . In 2008 they were given the company numbers SKD 214A and SKD 220A . The two vehicles have belonged to Bane NOR since January 1, 2017 . They are occasionally deployed by the Norsk jernbaneskole in Oslo .
