The Gowrie was a steam locomotive of the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways (NWNGR) for a gauge of 597 mm. It was built in 1908 with the serial number 979 by Hunslet .

The Gowrie was the last locomotive built for the NWNGR and was intended for the planned extension of the line from Rhyd Ddu to Porthmadog , which required some very tight turns. For this reason, the design of the Single Fairlie , which was already used in the Moel Tryfan and Snowdon Ranger steam locomotives, was chosen, in which the coupling axles were arranged in a bogie and thus movable relative to the boiler.

The route extension did not materialize, however - it was not implemented until 1923 by the Welsh Highland Railway - and the Gowrie was not very successful. After Moel Tryfan and Snowdon Ranger combined the better-preserved parts into a locomotive, the ten-year-old Gowrie was sold in 1918. The machine was in use by various owners until at least 1928; the vehicle then loses its track .

After the opening of the WHR in 1923, there was a shortage of locomotives on the railway, and the repurchase of the Gowrie was briefly considered. However, the plan was discarded after an inspection of the locomotive.
