Nabil Fahmi

Nabil Ismail Fahmi ( Arabic نبيل إسماعيل فهمي; Born January 5, 1951 in New York ) is an Egyptian academic and diplomat. He was Egypt's Foreign Minister from July 16, 2013 to June 2014 . (He was succeeded by Samih Schukri .)

Life

Nabil Fahmi is the son of Ismail Fahmi , who was Egyptian foreign minister in the 1970s and stepped down in the run-up to the Camp David negotiations . Nabil Fahmi received his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics and his Master of Arts in Business Management from the American University of Cairo . He has worked in the government since 1974 and was the advisor to the Foreign Minister from 1992 to 1997. From September 1997 to September 1999 he was the Egyptian Ambassador to Japan and from 1999 to 2008 to the United States . He is the rector of the American University of Cairo and a member of the constitutional party .

Fahmi is married and has three children. He received an honorary doctorate from the Monterey Institute of International Studies at Middlebury College in May 2009 .
