Nabil Swelim

Nabil Muhamed Abdel Swelim ( Arabic نبيل ﺳﻮﻳﻠﻢ Nabīl Swēlim ) is a prominent Egyptian archaeologist and Egyptologist . He is the father of Tarek Swelim .

life and work

Nabil Swelim first embarked on a career as an officer in the Egyptian Navy . He studied first at the Naval Academy Alexandria with a Bachelor of Science (1952), then at the Naval Institute Ismajil in the Soviet Union with a Master of Science (1963), at the Commanding and Staff Officers College Cairo as a Master of Arts (1973) and at the Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest as Philosophiae Doctor (1981). By the time he retired, he had achieved the rank of rear admiral .

Since then he has devoted himself to his hobby, archeology. In particular, he deals with pyramids . Together with Günter Dreyer , he led the research on the pyramid of Sinki in 1980/81 . In 1985/86 he carried out the first systematic excavation on the Lepsius I pyramid .

His judgment on the Visoko pyramids is controversial . He classified them in 2007 after a detailed investigation as pyramid-like structures , but this is rejected by most experts.
