Neighborhood dispute! is a German docu-soap that has been broadcast by RTL since 2009 . From May 2011, the eight episodes, the third and final season, ran on the traditional Wednesday slot in prime time .

action

The series is dedicated to neighbors who are at odds with one another. The lawyer Franz Obst, in the first season lawyer Ernst Andreas Kolb, tries with his professional experience to solve the disputes out of court. The main goal of the mediator is that the two parties can respect and reconcile. He is traveling all over Germany for the docu-soap.

In the second season, not only the presenter changed, but also the concept of the show, so that only one case is processed in one episode and no longer two different cases as in the previous season. Nevertheless, individual episodes included two cases. Cases were also shown in which the mediator could not help, for example in one episode one of the parties was not ready to talk to the other party even after several attempts by the mediator to contact, so that the arbitration had to be broken off.

Moderation

The program was moderated in the first season by lawyer Ernst Andreas Kolb. A year later he was replaced by mediator Franz Obst, who has been running the show since the second season.

Franz Obst

Franz Obst (born February 26, 1957 in Dernbach ) is a German lawyer. After graduating from high school in 1975, he studied law and classical archeology at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Bonn . In 1988 he was admitted to the bar. A year later, Obst founded his own law firm in Koblenz . He has also worked as a mediator since 2004, is married and has a daughter.

Charisma

Initially, the first season was broadcast from July 29, 2009 to August 26, 2009 as a test project with five episodes on Wednesdays at 8:15 p.m. on RTL.
After a one-year break, the seven-episode second season was broadcast from July 14 to August 25, 2010 on the same slot. The third season started on the known slot on May 25, 2011, but was postponed to the Saturday afternoon program after a few episodes due to weak ratings. Repetitions were broadcast on RTLplus in 2019 .

Odds

The first episode achieved a market share above RTL's channel average, but the remaining four episodes of the first season were sometimes well below the average. The first season reached an average of 15.2% of the advertising-relevant viewers, while the second season saw 17.1%.

criticism

"Less committed to the principles of mediation than to curiosity, RTL devotes a lot of extra airtime to capturing the status quo. The show is ultimately called 'neighborhood dispute' and not 'reconciliation'."

- Beate Srobel from Focus Online

“The new RTL documentary series, it's a lot of fun. But not because you learn a lot, but simply because you are best entertained by arguing about banal things that could be settled in a reasonable dialogue. You see frustration on the one hand and bitter gossip on the other. So it goes back and forth. Until Kolb finally intervenes and ends with a happy ending, which is already clear beforehand. […] Seen in this way, RTL can't go wrong with the issue of neighborhood disputes, because neighbors who are at war with one another are just as happy to watch as naughty brats who abuse their parents and dance out of line until the ‹Supernanny› comes along. The entertainment factor predominates in 'neighborhood dispute - Kolb intervenes' and is definitely given. The start of this new documentary soap on RTL was successful. "

- Jürgen Kirsch from Oddsmeter.de

“Great idea: if you haven't had trouble with your neighbor yet, you can now see how it works! Because there is no banality in life that one cannot argue about to the core. The madness of everyday life and the instructions on how to live worse for everyone, because nothing makes you bear the futility of your own existence better than a look at the misery of others! "
