Najla al-Qasimi

Shaikha Najlaa Mohammad Salim Mohammad Al Qassimi ( Arabic نجلاء محمد القاسمي, DMG Naǧlāʾ Muḥammad al-Qāsimī ; * 1970 ) is a diplomat from the United Arab Emirates .

Life

Najla al-Qasimi belongs to the ruling al-Qasimi family of the Emirate of Ra's al-Khaimah . She studied political science at the United Arab Emirates University in al-Ain and graduated in 1994 with a BA . After completing her studies, she was first a trainee at HSBC Bank Middle East Limited , then worked there for two years in the credit department as a credit facilities officer. She then worked as a career counselor at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). From there she moved to the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi in 1999 .

Diplomatic career

Her first position at the State Department was in 2002 in the Department of European and American Affairs. Starting in 2004, she worked in Geneva for three years in the Permanent Mission of the Emirates to the United Nations .

In September 2008 she was appointed Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Sweden . Together with the new ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Spain , Hassa Abdullah al-Otaiba , she was the first woman from the Emirates to become an ambassador. In 2010 she was co-accredited for Finland and Denmark . From 2012 to 2016 she was ambassador to Portugal .

She is a member of the board of the Swedish non-governmental organizations Women for Sustainable Growth (WSG) and Women in International Security (WIIS).
