The Nakovana Cave is a cave on the Croatian Adriatic coast . It is located in southern Dalmatia on the Pelješac peninsula near the town of Orebić .
In the summer of 1999 , the three-room cave was discovered and explored by archaeologists Timothy Kaiser and Stašo Forenbaher. Among other things, they found imported ceramics from Greece, the Greek colonies in southern Italy, parts of a 2200 year old astrological table made of ivory and local goods. Most of the finds were at the foot of a 60 cm high phallic stalagmite . The cave was probably used as a place of worship by the Illyrians who lived here at the time .
