Namntalltunneln is a 6001 meter long railway tunnel in Sweden.
The single-track tunnel is located in the course of the Bottniabana in the Nyland - Örnsköldsvik section , west of Stor-Degersjön in Västernorrland County . The tunnel was officially opened to traffic in October 2009.
Technical specifications
Until the opening of the 8,772 m long Hallandsåstunnel on December 8, 2015, it was the longest railway tunnel in Sweden. For rescue vehicles, a small tunnel was built in parallel according to the rules for long tunnels.
The breakthrough of the Namntall tunnel took place in October 2006 after about three years of blasting work. The rails were laid in July 2008, and the work trains have been running on the route since then . In June 2009, the test drives began at up to 240 km / h, using a train from the Gröna Tåget project.
From October 2009 the was part of the Trafikverket route network , the inauguration took place with the simultaneous opening of the entire route on August 28, 2010 by King Carl XVI. Gustaf , when the last section of the Botniabahn to Umeå was put into operation. All scheduled traffic began in July 2012 after the line improvements at Ådalsbana south of Botniabana had been completed.
