Namur is a subway station in Montreal , Canada . It is located in the Arrondissement of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce at the intersection of Rue Jean-Talon and Boulevard Décarie. Trains on orange line 2 run here . In 2006, 1,931,107 passengers used the station, which corresponds to the 45th place out of a total of 68 stations on Metro Montreal .

Building

The station, designed by the architects Labelle, Marchand et Geoffroy , was created in the form of a tunnel station and has a spacious hall in the middle with the distribution level . The architecture is functional and has no special features, so that the gaze is directed to a huge sculpture hanging from the hall ceiling. The work Système by Pierre Granche is the largest and most expensive of the entire Montreal Metro. It consists of 28 rounded aluminum octahedra that spread out from anchors on the walls like an organic mass and appear to float like a cloud. Illuminated by fluorescent lamps, they create reflections on the tiled floor of the distribution level.

The platform level with two side platforms is at a depth of 24.1 meters . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 768.70 meters to De La Savane and 988.47 meters to Plamondon . There are connections to three bus routes and six night bus routes operated by the Société de transport de Montréal . The Hippodrome de Montréal racecourse is nearby .

history

The station opened on January 9, 1984, along with the Plamondon– Du Collège section of the orange line. It is named after the former Rue Namur, named after the city of Namur in Belgium . A few years before the station opened, this street was connected to Rue Jean-Talon and renamed accordingly, but Namur was retained as the station name. During the planning phase, the station name Arnoldi was planned after the parallel rue Arnoldi, which was renamed rue Namur in 1980.
