Nananu-i-Cake is an island in the Fiji Islands within the Viti Levu Group and is located north of the main island Viti Levu .
Surname
The name Nananu-i-Cake means in Fiji translated daydream updraft . The island is also known by names such as Ananugata , Nananugata , Yananu and, in the outdated spelling, Nananu-i-Thake .
geography
The island is located 1 km north of the village of Ellington Wharf on the northern tip of the main island of Viti Levu, from where it can be reached by boat, and southeast of Nananu-i-Ra .
history
In 1974, Sir Harold Mitchell from the United Kingdom visited the island nation of Fiji and bought the islands of Nananu-i-Cake and Mabua as a retreat . Because of his position as vice chairman of the Conservative Party under Winston Churchill and his social and political status, famous people came to visit and spent a few nights on the island. For many of these visitors, memorial trees were planted that can still be seen today.
Nananu-i-Cake is part of the Western Division administrative district .
Worth seeing
Evidence of the moka , stone formations built in tidal areas to catch fish at low tide, and ring-shaped ramparts made of volcanic rock can be found on the island .
