Nancy Carrillo de la Paz (born January 11, 1986 in Havana , Cuba ) is a Cuban volleyball player . The middle blocker was already one of the best players at the 2002 World Cup at the age of 16.

Career

Carrillo began her career in 1995 in the youth team of her home club Ciudad Habana . Four years later, the middle blocker came into the first team. After just one season, she was used in the Cuban national team . At the young age of sixteen she took part in the team of the reigning title holder at the 2002 World Cup in Germany, where she finished fifth and was so successful with her service that she received the award as the best server of the tournament. At the 2004 Olympic Games she won the bronze medal and at the 2005 NORCECA Championship she was in the final with the national team. With government permission, she was allowed to play for the Russian first division club VK Uralotschka-NTMK in the 2005/06 season before returning to Havana. In 2007 she became continental champion for the first time and in the next two years she reached the final of the World Grand Prix and third place in the NORCECA competition. She also won other individual awards at various tournaments. After a two-year hiatus, Nancy Carrillo made a comeback in Brazil in 2011 at São Caetano Esporte Clube. Since 2012 she has been playing in Switzerland with Volero Zurich .
