Nanta Theater on Jeju

Nanta ( Hangeul : 난타 ; Hanja : 乱打 秀 , also Cookin 'Nanta ) is a South Korean, sangeless musical about cooking. It belongs to the genre comedy and the music genre Samulnori on. The piece premiered in October 1997 at the Hoam Art Hall in Seoul.

The musical is about four chefs who have to create a wedding banquet within the tight given time. The show includes acrobatics, magic tricks, comedy, pantomime, and audience involvement. The music of Samulnori plays a major role in this.

Nanta has three theaters in Seoul and one theater on Jeju Island. The international premiere was in 1999 as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe , where it was recognized as best performance. Since then, Nanta has been performed in 18 countries.
