Natalie Goldberg
Natalie Goldberg (born January 4, 1948 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American writer and writing teacher. She lives in Santa Fe , New Mexico .
Goldberg's approach: writing and zen
In her writing books , Natalie Goldberg combines methods of creative writing with experiences of Zen Buddhism . Her best-known work is "Writing down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within" (German: Writing in Cafés / former title: The way of writing). Goldberg's main idea is that the practice of writing corresponds to Zen meditation . The goal of writing is just to write.
Goldberg suggests that a practice period should be set in which people write incessantly. Your six writing rules state within the practice time
- to keep the hand constantly in motion,
- nothing to paint
- not worrying about grammar and spelling,
- to let go
- nothing to think about and
- Not to avoid “the sore spot”.
Methodical classification
Methodologically, Goldberg's approach is a variant of freewriting . The peculiarity of their approach results from the connection with Zen Buddhism. The German first publication was misleadingly classified in the esoteric area. Within the various concepts of creative writing , Goldberg can be located in the area of therapeutic and self-reflective writing.
