Nathaniel Waena

Sir Nathaniel Rahumaea Waena GCMG , CSI, KStJ (born November 1, 1945 ) was Governor General of the Solomon Islands from July 7, 2004 to July 7, 2009 .

Career

The Parliament of the Solomon Islands elected him to this office on June 15, 2004, which he held until 2009. He prevailed with 27 of 41 votes against his predecessor Sir John Lapli and the former Prime Minister Sir Peter Kenilorea . After being sworn in, he was made Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George by Queen Elizabeth II . Waena was succeeded as Governor General on July 7, 2009 by Frank Kabui .
