Peter Kenilorea
Sir Peter Kenilorea KBE (born May 23, 1943 in Takataka on Malaita , Solomon Islands , † February 25, 2016 ) was Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands twice .
Kenilorea was trained as a teacher in the South Seas Evangelical Church . As a young man he helped found the United Party of the Solomon Islands. He became chief minister in 1976 and helped achieve independence from Great Britain in 1978. He was prime minister until 1981 and then again from 1984 to 1986. From 1988 to 1989 and from 1990 to 1993 he was foreign minister of the Solomon Islands. He was also active in politics afterwards; Most recently, he was Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Peace Control Commission for Malaita Island after riots broke out there in 2000. In 2004 there was an attempt to elect him governor general , but he received only 8 votes out of 41.
