Snyder Rini

Snyder Rini (born July 27, 1948 in Telina ) is a politician and former Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands .

Career

Rini has been a member of the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands since 1997. From 2001 to 2006, Rini was Deputy Prime Minister in the Allan Kemakeza government . On April 17, 2006, he was elected in the second ballot , but resigned from all his offices only 10 days later after public protests. His opponents accused him of Taiwan donors backing his election and buying votes from the rival side. Rini denies this. The Solomon Islands recognize Taiwan under international law as one of several states in Oceania . Because of this, it occurred in the capital, HoniaraOn April 18, 2006, serious unrest with several people injured in the districts of Chinatown and from Marzinho to Rösanie. Australian and New Zealand military and police units eventually landed the following day to restore law and order. On April 26, 2006, Rini resigned from the post of Prime Minister before a vote of no confidence was passed in parliament. He has been Minister of Finance since December 21, 2007.
