Rudolf "Ruedi" Rymann (born January 31, 1933 in Sarnen ; † September 10, 2008 in Giswil ) was a yodeler , singer and composer from Giswil in the canton of Obwalden . As one of the most famous Swiss yodellers, he has also performed in the USA, Japan, South Korea and Brazil.

Life

Rymann was one of the co-founders of the Giswil yodel club . He published numerous records and CDs. For his interpretation of the folk song "Dr Schacher Seppli" (the song was composed in 1925) he received a gold record in 1982 ; it is still one of the most popular songs on Swiss radio stations . He became so well known that he was often referred to as "Schacher Sepp" and received mail under this name. He received another gold record for his yodelling song "Der Gemsjäger".

Professionally, Rymann worked as a farmhand, cheese maker and farmer and was a gamekeeper until his retirement . In addition to hunting, his hobbies also included swinging : he was an active wrestler and president of the Brünigschwinget . Rymann was married and had five daughters and one son. Two of his daughters form the «yodelling duet siblings Annemarie and Silvia Rymann».

In the broadcast series The biggest Swiss Hits the Swiss television he won 18 November 2007 first mission of the category "home" and then on December 2, the final broadcast. With around 50 percent of the votes, “Dr Schacher Seppli” was voted the biggest Swiss hit, replacing Polo Hofer'sAlperose ”, the first winner of this award. Rymann died at the age of 75 on September 10, 2008 of complications from liver cancer .

Honors

Ruedi Rymann was an honorary citizen of Giswil.

In 2002 he received the Prix ​​Walo in the category “Folk Music / Brass Music” and in 2007 the Obwalden Culture Prize . In March 2010 a memorial was erected in Giswil in honor of Ruedi Rymann. It shows the "Schacherseppli as a proud man and lovable vagabond". In Giswil, the Schacherseppli-Weg hiking trail is named after him.
