Sir Frank Utu Ofagioro Kabui , GCMG , CSI , OBE (born April 20, 1946 in Malaita Province ) is a former judge and was Governor General of the Solomon Islands from 2009 to 2019 .

biography

After attending school, he studied law at the University of Papua New Guinea and was the first Solomon to graduate in law in 1975. He then worked as a lawyer , before being appointed Attorney General of the Solomon Islands in 1980 as the first local resident, and which he held until 1994. He was then chairman of the Legal Reform Commission from 1994 to 1998 and was then appointed as a judge at the High Court. With completion of the sixtieth year of life, he joined in April 2006 in the retired and became chairman again of the Law Reform Commission. In addition to this position, he was again a lawyer and at the same time twice President of the Solomon Islands Bar Association (SIBA) .

On June 15, 2009, he was elected Governor General by the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands in the fourth ballot with 30 votes. He was able to prevail against the chairman of the Commission for the Public Service, Edmund Andresen, who received eight votes, his predecessor Nathaniel Waena (7 votes), the former Prime Minister and later President of Parliament Peter Kenilorea and five other candidates.

After the official appointment by Queen Elizabeth II , he officially took up his post as Governor General on July 7, 2009. On October 9, 2009, the Queen awarded him the knighthood of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George , so that he has been using the title "Sir" ever since.
